Sunshine State Trip

We're back from our Florida vacation, we had a blast! my hubby and i enjoyed the sun of the "sunshine state". feels like Philippines summer heat! we got to meet some of my friends. we had a nice time though it was just a short time. thanks for the yummy pancit and paksiw mareng dex! and the roast beef that my bff lorna made for dinner when we got to their house in valdosta, georgia. really good foods!
we spent a night at my bff house and drove back to jacksonville the next morning. went downtown and walk around, took some pics and ate lunch at hooters bar and restaurant with the beautiful view of the riverwalk. jacksonville is a very big city, infact the biggest city of florida. most of the roads are being reconstructed which caused some traffic especially at night. we we're not familiar with the place so we brought an atlas with us plus the free map from the rental car at the airport helped a lot! i was the reader or human gps i should say and hubby was the driver. LOL! sometimes we argue but just petty ones! but we made it all the way through.
we also drove to daytona beach on our 3rd day in jacksonville for about one and a half hour. it was a very splendid beach, the view of the coast was fantastic! with all the palm trees.. oh! what a beautiful earth! we did sunbathing and mind you that was the very first sun bathing i've ever done in my entire life. but i was fine cuz i applied spf 50 sunscreen on my skin. haha! i don't wanna get really dark, i'm happy and contented with my brown color! but my hubby got sunburned, actually he wants to get tanned but what happened after was he turned out so red. so once we got back home here i put aloe vera all over his back, arms and chest. and he can feel the pain now! poor honey! haha! anyway here are some of our photos.

It's Sunday!

It's Sunday time to praise God, thank Him for all the blessings that was poured unto us for the past week, though anytime of the day everyday is always nice to remember and thank Him. may it be a big or small blessings. and tomorrow will be a start of another new week.. im looking forward to our trip to Floriday in 2 days. so today i have started packing the things that we need for the trip. we'll be there for 3 days, i'm gonna meet my friend Dexie hopefully if she's not busy. she just started with her job lately. my hubby and i will also drive to valdosta, georgia to meet my bestfriend who just got here in the US last month. i'm going to get some stuff that i asked her to buy for me in PI and i will also give her some filipino seasoning i bought from the filipino store here in our place, cuz they don't have filipino store in their place or maybe haven't find one since shes new to their place.

We are going to look around the place in Jacksonville, we'll see if it's the right place for us to move and be settled there. i hope it's a good one so we won't be moving from one place to another every year or two cuz it is just so hard to do that.

What Kind Of A Friend Are You?

You Are a Good Friend Because You're Accepting

No matter what a friend says or does, you try your best to understand it.

And your friends feel like they can tell you anything. You don't judge.

You know that friendship is a journey - with a lot of ups and downs.
If you and a friend grow apart, you get over it quickly... and leave the potential for future friendship open.

You tend to have many friends from many walks of life. Anyone you meet is could become a friend.
In fact, you are especially interested in people who are a little different than you. Seeing life from another perspective is something you cherish.

Your friends need you most when: They can't turn to anyone else with their secrets

You really can't be friends with: Dogmatic, stubborn people

Your friendship quote: "Love is blind, but friendship closes its eyes."

Bistek Tagalog

This very simple, easy to make yet awesome recipe is now the new favorite of my hubby eversince he had a taste of it. i've actually been thinking of making this but i was hesitant becuz i might not cook it well. i was thinking that the beef might turn out gummy or hard. but the other day i decided to make it and guess what? my hubby really loves it! and just so in time that PMC have this weekly fest so i decided to make this as my entry for the PMC weekly fest, heres the actual photo still hot direct from the pan.. hehe!

Ingredients:

6 pcs. kalamansi (but since i can't find kalamansi here in US i used 3 medium sized lemons)

1 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce

1/4 tsp. black pepper

1/2 kilo beef top round, sliced thinly across the grain

vegetable oil spray

1/2 cup sliced onions

Cooking Procedure:

1. Combine the juice of the kalamansi or lemon with soy sauce and pepper. Marinate the beef in this mixture for 30 minutes to an hour depending on the thickness and cut of the beef.

2. Heat a non-stick pan and spray twice with vegetable oil. Cook the sliced onions until soft. Set aside.

3. Cook the beef in the oil until done. Pour marinade over the beef and simmer until the sauce thickens. Add the onions and serve hot.

very easy isn't it? try it and let me know how it goes with your family or loveones!

New Face

I worked my whole day trying to change my blog's template, i had seen so many beautiful templates but some of it are for sale and some of it are needed to download but because our pc has McAfee security, just can't download it that easy without informing my hubby. he run it again the other day and gathered about 15 virus which sometimes makes our pc run so slow and unresponsive which pissess me off most of the time especially when im working on my blog. So today i serached for free blogger templates but ended up with a very simple one, but i like it though! i'm just sick and tired of my previous template which look like a blackboard becuz of its color. LOL! i wish i was as gifted and creative like you to make my template the way i want it! well, there's always room for learning isn't it? i just have to be patient and willing to do all of that. (sigh) gotta go for now haven't take a shower yah know! haha! (antot na ko!) then later need to cook pa the bistek i marinated. my hubby requested it, i made it the other day and he just can;t get enough of it so he want me to make it again today. be back and visit some of you later!

Dentist Day

It's been quite a busy day for me and my hubby today cuz it's his day off again and also my appointment for my dental. so this morning hubby drop me off at the clinic, he didn't want to stay cuz its gonna take me a long time to be done and he just couldn't just sit in the lobby and wait. so he went to the fish store to buy a bucket of salt for the our aquarium's water, we have some saltwater fishes which i call "the brats" while i was in the dental clinic. i remember when i was in PI i never had a deep cleaning ( cleaning underneath the gum) the dentist didn't even dare to tell me that i needed one like this cuz there were calculus build up in between my teeth already though i don't have a plaque. they just like brushing my teeth for me and i pay them a f***king 450 pesos for that stupid way of cleaning. and to think that they (dentist) do the cleaning themself, no assistant or hygienest to do it for them. can't they see the build up in between my teeth? the calculus was already black ( she showed it to me, it looks like a tiny hard shell that has been stuck in my teeth) the hygienest told me its been there for years! to think that every six months i go to the clinic to have my teeth cleaned. they don't even offer you that you need some bleaching etc.. etc.. thank God i'm here atleast all the expenses for the cleaning my teeth worth it! and tomorrow i'll be going back again for the deep cleaning on the left side of my mouth. i'll be numb for 4 hours again and can't eat again! even hard to talk! but it's okey cuz as i said its worth it all!

Wanna Have my Own Garden

SmileyCentral.com Every time we go to a store i always get to see beautiful flowering plants and i really get so upset cuz i've been dying to have my own garden with beds of different flowers. i always tell my hubby that i want it so much and he always reply me with.... i know baby! but we don't have our own house yet.
i envy those houses that we pass by with a garden at their yards. especially now that it's the season for tulips to bloom. how beautiful could be a house with lots of flowering plants on its facade. it is really one of my hobbies way back when i was still in the Philippines cuz my mom inspired me, we used to have different plants and flowers in our yard and we do really take care of them, sometimes i even talk to the plants begging them to bloom. LOL! i miss those days cultivating and watering plants! for sure mom still keep our garden well.

Acne-Fighting Mask

I was reading the latest issue of cosmopolitan magazine for June,i came accross to this article about a homemade acne treatment and thought of sharing it to you guys. we all know and believe that papaya is really good for our skin cuz it is loaded with enzymes that help dissolve oil and slough off dead skin. and the fact that there are many brand names of papaya soap in the market everywhere. so here's how to make the homemade acne fighting mask...

Cut a papaya in half, and toss the seeds. scoop out the fruit and mash it. beat an egg until its frothy, and then mix it with the papaya ( the egg helps the mask stick). add half a cup of crushed pineapple to the egg/papaya mixture, and whip together. (TIP: you can also mix the ingredients in the blender or a food processor for an extra smooth consistency... and to save yourself some work) cover your face with the mixture, avoiding the sensitive eye area, from your brows to the tops of your cheekbones. leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

apply the mask once a week to sop up acne causing grease.

And that's it.. very organic, easy to make and most of all affordable! you may even use the left-over fruit to make a healthful smoothie! itsn't that great? theres no harm in trying no chemicals added anyway.. may try it myself too!

Florida Here We Come!

On the 27th of this month we will be going to Jacksonville, Florida to check out the place cuz we might be moving there by September. My hubby and i have been planning and talking about moving a few months ago and there were many prospects that we are choosing from but Florida stands out. First, it doesn't snow during winter but yeah it's still cold out there too. Second, its hot as in Philippines summer hot weather during summer. or maybe hotter! but what i like the most is the beach! stunning and amazing beaches! we both love the beach.

The very main reason why we are moving is all because of my hubby's job. he request for a transfer so he's gonna be working at jax airport for southwest airlines. nope he's not a pilot! hehe! he's a ground crew.

I have learned to love our place here but in a few months time i have to leave it. i had totally adjusted and adopt my environment here already. i got familiar quickly with the roads i just needed to learn driving, but for sure i know my map around here. i have met few friends here that i already treasure. they are just so good to me! and they too are sad when i told them were moving but they can't do anything to stop us neither do i. i have to go where my hubby has to go.

But anyway i know that when we move to florida there are friends waiting for me there too! my bestfriend lives just 45 minutes drive away from jacksonville and hey my friend Dexie live in Jacksonville. who knows we'll be neighbors! haha!

I have mix emotions actually, i'm sad (i'm a cry baby) cuz this place has been dear to me and my friends here but on the other hand i'm also excited cuz i cant wait to see the beach, feel the heat of the sun in Florida, excited to see our new place, meet my friends who live there and new friends too! and oh yeah can't wait to see disneyworld! never been there yet.

But thinking about the moving again makes me sick... why? because moving from Spokane, Washington to Jacksonville, Florida on a uhaul takes about 4 days on the road. uhh! can you imagine how tiring that is? especially on hubby's part cuz he'll be the only one driving the big truck full of our stuff! sucks for me i can't even help him! but that doesn't mean that i wont get tired anymore cuz sitting on the truck travelling the whole day nails my butt on the seat and that hurts too! haha! i just wish we could get this over as soon as possible. i just wanna be settled in one place, i hate moving cuz of all the hard work! thats why i told my hubby that we have to make sure we really like and be comfortable with the place were moving at.

I got my Cheat reward!

My hubby and i made an agreement that we are both going on a diet because we noticed that we are already getting huge. and the diet is also accompanied by an exercise. well, i think it's pretty easy cuz i don't eat too much anyway, i eat like a cat but eversince i started taking the prescription birth control pills i am getting bigger too. might be a side effect of it huh! but my hubby is so health concious, he doesn't like red meats (pork and beef) well yeah sometimes he eats beef but very rare. he can eat chicken everyday but i can't. so most of the time i cook veggies or veggie burger for him. the only fish he like the most is tilapia fillet. not the whole tilapia cuz he says he dont wanna eat it with its eyes looking at him! LOL! he's so funny. so we only buy the frozen tilapia fillet that comes in a box. so every other day he exercise after work on our stationary bike that he bought last december. sometimes i do it too but most of the time i am so lazy! hehe! so when he asked me if i exercised i just said yeah, but i really do exercise. i do some crunches and stretching! haha! i concentrate on my abs cuz i getting a belly already. every sunday is our weighing day to see our progress. if we lose weight or not! but last sunday when i weighed myself i lost 3 lbs. yeah! was so happy while he only lost a pound. haha! so i told him i deserve a cheat so last wednesday i got my cheat, a chocolate covered strawberry waffle from dairy queen! yum yum!

Freak Woman Pissed me off!

For the first time last night since i moved here i got to chat with a friend not really a friend close to me but because her son is my godson so i just call her a friend anyway, shes in the Philippines. the first things she asked was "how are you?" so i replied "i'm doing good!" and she also asked how far am i right now with my baby. i told her that i had a miscarrige a few months ago so im not pregnant anymore, she said sorry for that and again i said it's okey cuz were gonna have another baby soon anyway when we are ready again. we talked about some other things also then suddenly she said... " can you buy me a ralph lauren cap when you see one?" well in my thought i said what? you dont even dare to ask me if i got a job right now?! (i got her point right away) what is this woman thinks about me? rich? i almost tell her that hey woman i don't just sh*t dollars here! just because i live in USA that means that i already have all the money i need?! Not quite a surprise to me anymore though cuz even when i was still in PI she would always as in always ask me if i could loan her some money everytime she sees me. Do i look like Ninoy in the 500 peso bill? oh maybe now i look like the person on the 100 dollar bill! LOL! sometimes it really pisses me off the way some people (especially in the province) in the Philippines think about you when you are here in the states and they are there in PI. they assume that once you are abroad you live a luxurious life already, as if it is so easy to earn money. they don't understand that what you earn is also what you spend. i mean you earn dollars but you also spend dollars! and to think that shes not even related to me? my family or relatives doesn't even ask anything from me. and its the first time ever that we talked online. what a guts for her to ask me that! haha! so i immediately cut off our conversation and told her that i was already sleepy but the fact is i dont wanna talk to her any longer. i guess she knew that i got pissed-off. well its just a cap i can buy her that when i get a job but thats not the point, she went to it right away without even asking. i don't wanna ask money from my hubby just to buy a cap for her. hello! i don't even do that to my family. as of now i am jobless because i am not yet capable of working without my working permit. that woman maybe thinks when she hears "America", life is always a luxury! yeah right its uncle Sam's country, land of the big apple but hey people here all work their a** off to live and support their families and yeah gas prices and stuff also gets high in here and people also feel pain in their a** for that!

Got a Headache

Every morning i always had a hard time getting up cuz i always have this headache the moment i open my eyes. and i hate it! though i wanted to get up early in the morning its just so hard for me. but by the the time i get to sip on my hot coffee i'd feel better. good thing hubby's schedule for work isn't early. i really hate having a headache cuz everytime i have that felt like my head is going to burst! grrrr... again the good thing is we always have aspirin in our medicine drawer. sometimes i am thinking maybe its because of my eyes too, maybe i really need to have my eyes check as soon as possible. does that mean i need to wear eyeglasses now or contacts?! oh no! i hope not!

My Acne Problem Solved

After my miscarriage a few months ago i noticed that there were small pimples growing on my forehead which is i am not used to. but at first i wasn't bothered by it and thought that it'll just disappear in a few days but it gotten worse when there were also some growing on my cheeks and not only that its kinda hurt too. so i begun worrying about it and told my hubby that maybe i needed to see a dermatologist. i don't ever wanna go anywhere with zits around my face. i felt ashame if somebody would see it and though they won't say anything but do i know what they were thinking about me when they see my pimpled face? i really got bothered and my hubby too! until we saw a commercial on tv about an acne treatment with the celebrities testimonials about it, so i thought what if i try that too and see if it really works?! my hubby told me to go on their website and order it online. so i did and so easy to do it, after a few days my order came in and was so excited to use it for the first time with a hope that it will really work! after a few days i notice some changes, there were some peeling but not bad. and my zits started to get dry. after a month of using it i notice the glow in my face and my zits were gone! my face got smooth and i really like the result! the product really works! until now i'm still using it though its a lil expensive but its worth it! now i can go anywhere i want without worrying about how do i look. my friends also noticed the changes on my face skin. and they said my face is fairer and smoother!

A walk in the Park

Its past midnight but here i am wide awake and infront of the pc fixing my links and typing what just my day went like. well, today is my hubby's off from work so as usual i didn't do blogging cuz he doesn't know about it, still my secret! so we went out for a walk in the park, the weather was warm but windy so it was really nice. for the first time after the winter i went out with just my short and a sleeveless shirt. he took me to the river downtown and the current was tremendous! if somebody fall on that he/she'll be dead for sure. we take some pictures and of course the beautiful spring flowers and trees didn't pass out our sight. its really nice for the eye to see green trees and grasses cuz its so refreshing. we even saw some baby squirrels and marmots! my hubby just loved taking pictures of animals and nature. well for me i felt better being out from my prison (as i call our apartment) hehe! cuz i couldn't go anywhere when hubby is at work. i stay home all day by myself. i could only get the chance to go out when some of my friends wants to go malling, they come and pick me up here. sigh! thats what you get when you dont know how to drive! grrrr... we also went to the video and bookstore and i bought a new book, a novel by Sophie Kinsella entitled "Can You Keep A Secret?" cuz im almost done with the book that i am reading as of now. and he bought another nintendo wii videogame, Lara Croft (tomb raider) and an Atlas book cuz we travel frequently so we need one. on our way home we stop by at a store to buy some stuff that were low and out of. anyway i enjoyed my day with my honey! i have been bugging him for the last few days to take me out for a walk cuz i need some exercise too! hehe!

Free Rice for the Poor

I was infront of the computer while the tv is on and i heard something from a news that caught my attention. its about an online game which in the same way could help millions of poor people from around the world who are experiencing poverty. and because i am so fascinated with games i went on their website to check it out and try it for myself. and its true! its really an exciting educational online game cuz not only that you can help but also it benefits you by widening your vocabulary knowledge. i am so into it! i love this kind of game simply because i love learning, and for me learning never stops. while i am learning i am also helping poor people just by choosing the correct meaning of the given word from the choices and every correct answer means i am donating 20 grains of rice to the UN World Food Program. so the more correct answer the more grains i can donate, just by knowing what a word meant you can make a difference by helping end hunger. pretty easy isn't it? i just started making a difference in those peoples life, we all can! and now i'm getting addicted with the game that extremely benefits me like some people who have been to it says...

"In the best spirit of the internet, it offers education, entertainment and a way to change the world."

Tuna Helper for the Day

It's pretty amazing to me everytime my husband cook food for me, this morning he made a Tuna Helper for my lunch or for my dinner or as he says i can eat anytime i want during the day. though he knew that i can make it myself he insisted to do it. so since i didn't eat breakfast i had it for my brunch. Tuna Helper comes in a box with pasta and cheesy sauce mix inside, all you need to add is a tuna (can), butter, milk and hot water. this instant meal can be purchase at your favorite grocery store. so easy to cook, kids may love it cuz its really cheesy.

I Refuse!

This morning before my hubby leave for work he asked me if it's okey to give up the cable box so we can cut up some expenses and save some money for our moving hopefully in September. we haven't decided yet where but we have some prospect places, we just needed to visit the places first and see if we will be comfortable. So back to the cable box, i wanted to but then the thought of giving it up also means that i can't watch my favorite tv shows in cable channels and tfc anymore makes me feel more and more bored! cuz everyday while he is at work i watch all the shows of tfc which makes me feel closer to home and i am still aware with the latest happenings thru tv patrol world. i really am not ready to give it up so i refuse and tell my hubby to keep it for two more months and just get rid of it by the time that were ready to pack and move. thank goodness he agreed!

Today i watched the movie "27 Dresses" on DVD that we rented yesterday. It's a romantic comedy film, with Katherine Heigl on the lead role. well, it was a fine movie.. didn't really carried me away to laugh. in fact i fell asleep watching it for a while, who could not when you are wrapped with a warm fleece and curled up in a sofa but i manage to wake up and finish it. LOL! its the only movie we rented yesterday cuz i wasn't in the mood to think of a movie that i wanted to see. ugh! pretty cool enough to ease a lil boredom but i like Katherine Heigl though, she's cute!

Makati Escapade

At the Power Plant mall (Rockwell, Makati City)
A night's view from the roof top of Perla's Mansion

I am originally from the philippines and been to different cities mostly on the northen part of the island but never really explored its capital city of manila, i've been to a few city but not yet in the city of Makati where in it is called the business capital of the country. When my hubby visited me for the second time in the Philippines he wanted to stay in Makati city. and i said its okey because i know that its really a beautiful city to stay not only that it is safe for him its also clean. so he look for a place for us to stay there and instead of booking it on hotels combined he found Perla's Mansion, it's a condotel. the room was big enough for the two of us, it has its own kitchen, dining room and living room and the condotel has also swimming pool located on the building's roof top where in the view was amazing especially at night when you see the makati skyline with all the buildings lights were on. and it's also very affordable with free breakfast every morning. the location was great cuz it is just a walking distance to everything like when you love to do shopping the greenbelt, glorietta, Landmark, SM malls and other malls like the Power Plant mall are just nearby also the restaurants of your favorite cuisine. we both enjoyed our stay in Makati City, you can see lots of foreigners too spending their vacation in the city. and we are looking forward to our next vacation there.
if you consider Makati City on your next stop, you may wanna click here for more information about the place.

Tuesday is free popcorn day! it was already 10:15 pm when the movie starts, and imagine there was no other else in the theater aside from us. it was just the two of us! its very romantic! it feels like he reserved the theater just for us! haha! my imagination is flying! so eventhough i laugh out loud nobody would be bothered. the movie was so hilarious! i really like Amy Poehler, she's so so funny. i watch her every saturday on SNL!

That's why i didn't do much blog hopping too today cuz we went out again and just did a lil walking cuz the weather is getting nicer and nicer, it's getting warmer everyday! i really like it, and a friend of mine called me and ask me if i can go out with them sometime, uh just a little get together at friend's house. we'll do some cooking and chikas! we call it pinays day out! hehe! cuz our hubby's are not around. we usually do it on weekdays while our husband's are at work. cuz when they're off from work its the time that we spent just for them. i guess hubby is about done so im gonna sign off now too! see you around!

So now you know whats inside that bulky purse that i always carry with me when i go out!

Why Bananas are good for you

Heres a follow up post regarding my previous post about banana..

While you are eating banana do you ever think what could a banana do with your health? or why is it good for you? well according to this research heres the answer to that anticipation.

Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

Providing energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it the perfect way to beat high blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit t hat can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer, tryptophan.

Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills.

When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Banana.. Oh my banana!

My hubby's day isn't complete if he didn't eat banana. he eats one every morning, its a part of his breakfast. this fruit is a must have in our kitchen, he always buy some before we run out of it! and since i lived with him i also get used to eat banana everyday. well, i really like banana eversince, and banana shake for me is a superb one! i love it to the max! i do eat everyday but i don't even know what do i get from this fruit aside from potassium. so to cut my curiousity here are some FACTS about this fruit that i would wanna share with you.

3 medium size bananas weigh approximately 1 pound.

A cluster of bananas is called a hand and consists of 10 to 20 bananas, which are known as fingers.

As bananas ripen, the starch in the fruit turns to sugar. Therefore, the riper the banana the sweeter it will taste.

Banana plants are the largest plants on earth without a woody stem. They are actually giant herbs of the same family as lilies, orchids and palms.

Bananas are a good source of vitamin C, potassium and dietary fiber.

Bananas are America's #1 fruit.

Bananas are available all year-round. They are harvested every day of the year.

Bananas are great for athletic and fitness activity because they replenish necessary carbohydrates, glycogen and body fluids burned during exercise

Bananas are one of the few fruits that ripen best off the plant. If left on the plant, the fruit splits open and the pulp has a "cottony" texture and flavor. Even in tropical growing areas, bananas for domestic consumption are cut green and stored in moist shady places to ripen slowly.

Bananas are perennial crops that are grown and harvested year-round. The banana plant does not grow from a seed but rather from a rhizome or bulb. Each fleshy bulb will sprout new shoots year after year.

Bananas have no fat, cholesterol or sodium.

Each banana plant bears only one stem of fruit. To produce a new stem, only two shoots - known as the daughter and the granddaughter - are allowed to grow and be cultivated from the main plant.

In South East Asia, the banana leaf is used to wrap food (in the place of plastic bags and cling wraps), providing a unique flavor and aroma to nasi lemak and the Indian banana leaf rice.

India is by far the largest world producer of bananas, growing 16.5 million tonnes in 2002, followed by Brazil which produced 6.5 million tonnes of bananas in 2002. To the Indians, the flower from the banana tree is sacred. During religious and important ceremonies such as weddings, banana flowers are tied around the head, for they believe this will bring good luck.

Some horticulturists suspect that the banana was the earth's first fruit. Banana plants have been in cultivation since the time of recorded history. One of the first records of bananas dates back to Alexander the Great's conquest of India where he first discovered bananas in 327 B.C.

The banana plant reaches its full height of 15 to 30 feet in about one year. The trunk of a banana plant is made of sheaths of overlapping leaves, tightly wrapped around each other like celery stalks.

The origin of bananas is traced back to the Malaysian jungles of Southeast Asia, where so many varieties and names for the banana are in that area.

The word 'banan' is Arabic for finger.

There are more than 500 varieties of banana in the world: The most common kinds are Dwarf Cavendish, Valery, and Williams Hybrid bananas. Other types of bananas include Apple and a small red banana called the Red Jamaica. A large type of banana called the plantain is hard and starchy and is almost eaten as a cooked vegetable. The Cavendish is the most common variety of bananas now imported to the United States. The Cavendish is a shorter, stubbier plant than earlier varieties. It was developed to resist plant diseases, insects and windstorms better than its predecessors. The Cavendish fruit is of medium size, has a creamier, smooth texture, and a thinner peel than earlier varieties.

There is no such thing as a banana tree. Bananas grow on plants.

Today's commercial bananas are scientifically classified into the genus Musa of the Musaceae family.
